Wamanan’s case put off to April 30
The trial against the journalist Arthur Wamanan was put off for April 30 by Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Harsha Sethunga due to the non availability of instructions from the Attorney General.
Minister Mano Wijeratne had complained to the Wellawatte police that a five million rupee bribe was demanded from him by the suspect to stop a story about him being published in the paper the suspect worked for on October 21, 2007.
Court orders release of Vanni doctors
A court in Sri Lanka has ordered police to release five Tamil doctors who served in the battle zone during the last stages of war, if no evidence is found against them.
Colombo magistrates court also ordered the police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to speed up the investigations that has already taken more than eight months.
Provincial correspondent attacked while covering election violence
Puttalam district freelance journalist Jude Samantha was covering the clash when he was attacked. His DV TV camera was smashed on the ground and physically beaten. Jude Samantha told MFSL that he made a complaint at Mundalama police station and he was assaulted by ruling party supporters.
