Angry over non-compliance of his directives by political parties, Sri Lanka’s top election official today said he would quit after the presidential polls next week.
Amnesty International calls on all candidates standing in Sri Lanka’s Presidential elections on January 26th to end widespread human rights violations and the culture of impunity that continues to plague the country.
We are a group of concerned citizens informally organized under the name “The Friday Forum”. The Forum includes a number of distinguished elder citizens as well.
We write to express our deep concern regarding the blatant violation of election laws, including directives you have issued by virtue of powers vested in you under the Constitution of Sri Lanka, by candidates contesting the forthcoming presidential election.
