Election spending of main candidates tops 350M

Four leading NGOs that stand for the cause of good governance and a free and fair election said that the excessive spending on advertising by Presidential candidates, the two main candidates in particular, that had topped the Rs. 350 million mark even by January 10, has contributed to the escalation of election violence and malpractices in the country.

TISL highlights bias in media coverage

While the state media, in their main news broadcasts and current affairs programs have blatantly violated the guidelines issued by the Elections Commissioner in covering the Presidential Election thereby breaking the election laws, private media newscasts and current affairs programs too are, to a lesser degree, guilty of this offence.
