Sri Lankan independent journalist and political analyst Prageeth Ekneliyagoda has been missing since the evening of 24 January, just two days before a snap presidential election, amidst growing concerns that he may have been abducted for political reasons.
Reporters Without Borders condemns the imposition of additional restrictions on online free expression in Sri Lanka as the country held a presidential election on 26 January 2010. Access to the independent news websites Lankaenews, Lankanewsweb, Infolanka and Sri Lanka Guardian has been blocked by the country’s main Internet Service Provider.
I wish to bring to your urgent attention the concerns voiced by voters and shared by CMEV with regard to the counting process of votes in the 26 January 2010 Presidential Election and the announcement of the results.
Post-election violence continued to rock several places through out the country with some 15 incidents including two murders already reported and independent poll observers have called on the political leaders to restrain their supporters.
