Declaring assets and liabilities by journalists is not mandatory but it is optional, said Sri Lanka’s Minister for Media Keheliya Rambukwella after assuming the post. The government earlier declared that it is mandatory for journalists to declare their assets and liabilities
Mr. Rambukwella further said however it is legal to ask journalists to declare their assets.
The Sri Lankan Department of Information last month sent forms to each journalist to declare their assets and liabilities.
