Rivira Editor becomes victim to the Rajapaksas and loses job and salary

Rivira Editor, Upali Tennekoon, who fled to the US with his wife following a brutal attack on him it to be sacked from his job by the new administration at the newspaper organization.

Well known Casino businessman Ravi Wijeratne, who has taken over the management of the Rivira newspaper, due to his friendship with the President and the Defence Secretary is reportedly treating Tennekoon in this manner.

Tennekoon is a veteran artiste and former Editor of the Divaina newspaper. Tennekoon is the first editor of the Rivira newspaper when it was launched by the Arpico Company. Following The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge’s murder in 2009, Tennekoon and his wife were attacked in a bid to assassinate them in order to justify Lasantha’s killing.

Tennekoon and his wife managed to escape and flee to the US. The President and the Defence Secretary provided him with security at the time. A senior journalist told Lanka News Web that it was ironic to see Tennekoon who was provided with security by the President now being treated cruelly by the new administration of the newspaper with the President’s knowledge.
