The Lanka Truth website, which is being operated by the JVP Media Unit, is being obstructed by Sri Lanka Telecom, it is learnt. The action has been initiated by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC).
Senior government members, who were disturbed by the launching of http://www.radio.lankatruth.com web radio channel, have approved the TRCís move.
The obstruction has caused difficulties for people in some parts of the country to access the website. However, such viewers could access
the website through a proxy site.
A journalist affiliated to the website told us that they had received several complaints from viewers from various parts of the country and that they were currently inquiring into the matter.
A senior official at the Government Information Department told us that no one has the right to operate a radio station without TRC approval. However, he said that there were no laws in the country pertaining to a radio website. The official added that the Tamilnet website and the Lanka News Web site have been blocked in the country
