Kovils in the East removed after claiming them to be unauthorized structures

2010-07-11
TNA Batticaloa District parliamentarian D. Yogeswaran told a group of journalists on the 7th that the government has forcible taken away two Hindu kovils in Trincomalee and that the Army had taken charge of one kovil in Batticaloa.

Yogeswaran has said that the religious leaders at the kovils had informed him that the authorities had presented fake documents claiming them to be unauthorized structures before demolishing them.

He further noted that the police barricades are being set up in places of religious worship and that even the Tamil political leaders supportive
of the Rajapaksa government have been unable to protest these places of worship.
