UNP deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya has condemned what he called the government’s disruptive actions against ‘Debiddo’, a stage drama by veteran director Prasanna Vitanage.
In a statement, Mr. Jayasuriya said it was only due to politics that this stage drama is facing trouble created through police.
‘Debiddo’ is an adaptation of Italian playwright Dario Fo’s ‘Trumpets and Raspberries.’
As it was due to be shown at the Lionel Wendt on July 11, Cinnamon Gardens Police had questioned Mr. Vithanage over a smoking scene, said Mr. Jayasuriya, adding that the entire stage drama has been approved by the Public Performance Board.
He added in his statement that he would register his objections to the president and the minister of cultural affairs about this disruptive action.
