August 04, 2010: The case filed by the Mirihana police against three persons including journalist Susil Kindelpitiya was taken up yet again today, before the Colombo Magistrate Court.
Mirihana police told court that steps were being taken to obtain the Attorney General’s advice with regard to filing charges against the suspects.
Police further stated that they required more time for the purpose.
As a result of the submissions made yesterday, the additional magistrate presiding over the case postponed it until the 17th of this month.
Counsel appearing for journalist Susil Kindelpitiya, Attorney at Law Shanaka Ranasinghe told court that his client was granted bail by the high court.
He further noted that the facts presented to court by the police and the affidavit of the female complainant presented through a lawyer were contradictory.
Attorney at Law Ranasinghe also said that the former Magistrate instructed the police to obtain the advice of the Attorney General regarding filing charges against the suspects, based on this situation.
The Mirihana police have lodged a complaint against three persons including Kindelpitiya for abducting a young woman and possessing a firearm.
