Attorney General on Firday (3) informed the Supreme Court that he had decided to clear Bottom Line and Nation newspaper Defence correspondent Ruwan Weerakoon of the charge that he was working to topple the government.
The Court was informed of the decision by the government lawyer representing the Attorney General.
The Supreme Court on March 25 granted leave to proceed with the Fundamental Rights petition filed the release of Bottom Line and Nation newspaper Defence correspondent Ruwan Weerakoon. Weerakoon was arrested by the TID while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.
The petition states that Weerakoon was taken to the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) while he was receiving treatment for a heart ailment at a private hospital. The petition further denied the charge that he was working to topple the government under which charge he was arrested.
