Two activists of the JVP who had been distributing leaflets at Nuwaraeliya town to educate the people regarding the proposed 18th amendment to the constitution have been arrested by Nuwaraeliya Police. The two arrested are a candidate of the JVP for Pradeshiya Sabha and an activist in the area.
According to the media unit of the JVP the two activists were arrested yesterday evening by a group claiming they were intelligence officers, detained the two at Kandy Police the whole of last night and had released them today morning. However, the police had not made any charges against the two.
When ‘Lankatruth’ tried to contact the OIC Nuwawraeliya to find out more details regarding the incident we were told that the OIC was not available as he had gone to Court. Two JVP activists pasting posers in Jaffna town too had been arrested by the police.
