Journalist Ruwan Weerakoon, who is on bail will be discharged and the connected papers sent within a fortnight, Senior State Counsel Riyaz Hamsa told the Supreme Court when his fundamental rights petition was taken up for hearing on Friday.
The Bench comprising Justices Shiranee Tilakawardane and S.I. Imam listed the matter for October 6.
The Supreme Court had earlier granted leave to proceed with Mr. Weerakoon’s FR violation petition, in which he challenged his arrest and detention over allegations of having facilitated conversations between retired General Sarath Fonseka and former UNPers Johnston Fernando and Lakshman Seneviratne.
