Tamil media asked not to undermine reconciliation process

The government fears a section of the Tamil media will make a sustained attempt to undermine the ongoing post-war reconciliation efforts. The SLFP is concerned that the LG polls campaign could be exploited by those bent on keeping the separatist sentiments alive. On behalf of the government, Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister, Dallas Alahapperuma on Tuesday (15) appealed to the Tamil media not to engage in a campaign to destabilise the country.

Addressing the media at the Mahaweli auditorium, the UPFA National List MP requested the Tamil media to desist from backing politicians who were promoting ethnic disharmony. Alahapperuma said that no one should pursue political strategies at the expense of stability achieved through military means.
