Right to dissent – Public petition against police inaction on Vickramabahu attack

Several organizations, leading activists and lawyers have launched a public petition calling on the police chief to explain why no legal action has been taken against the attackers of Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne.

The Nava Sama Samaja Party general secretary came under attack at the Katunayake International Airport on 07, December 2010.

The petition says he was attacked by a group led by Suresh Kumar Gunarathne, the son of Sarath Gunarathne, deputy minister of state resources and enterprise development.

No action has yet been taken against the identified assailants, alleges the petition that will be handed to the IGP tomorrow (March 24) following a public assembly outside the colombo Fort Railway Station.
