The Samurdhi Development Officers Association said that it condemns the Samurdhi Authority’s action of suppressing trade unions instead of resolving their problems.
Representatives of the Association made this statement at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday.
“There is a problem regarding the fact that the promise made to establish pensions under a department, was not fulfilled. We see this as a serious problem. This is a constant request made from the side of the employees for their job security. The rulers have made promises in this regard on several occasions. Because these promises were not fulfilled we constantly urged them. I condemn the measure taken to suppress the trade unions instead of selecting procedures to deal with this problem. Requests have been made to the administration to resolve this problem through discussions. However we were not granted an opportunity. The General Secretary of our Association has been interdicted based on false allegations,” said Janaka Deshapriya, President, Samurdhi Development Officers Association.
