Vavuniya police have, through a court order, halted a protest organized by the People’s Wall for Comradeship.
Convener of the organization Sunil Handunnetti said the demonstration had been planned against various issues.
They include the non-resettlement of the displaced even three years after the war, grabbing of the north, east land by the state, political prisoners and the restoration of civilian administration.
He said the organization has suspended the protest in order to respect the court order.
Mr. Handunnetti said political prisoners on a fast for six days at Vavuniya Prison were yet to obtain attention of the authorities.
The government should take responsibility for the danger posed to the lives of the prisoners, he added.
