‘Ravaya’ news editor says no to free Gov laptop offer

News editor of ‘Ravaya’ Lasantha Ruhunage has turned down an offer of a laptop under a state-sponsored distribution programme for journalists.
He has written to media ministry secretary Charitha Herath that as a media activist, his conscience does permit him to accept it.
Four days ago, president Mahinda Rajapaksa made a token distribution of interest free vehicle loans and free laptops for journalists and artistes.
The ‘Ravaya news editor’ refused to accept a laptop, saying what Sri Lanka’s media needed was justice and freedom, which the government’s prime responsibility was to ensure.
