FRESH APPLICATION FOR SHAKTHI TV SUBMITTED TO TRC, APPEAL COURT TOLD

The Court of Appeal was notified yesterday that the MTV Channel Private Limited has submitted a fresh application to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) seeking a licence for Shakthi TV, which has been broadcasting in the Jaffna peninsula for the past seven years.

The 24th of February marked the first month anniversary of the disappearance of Prageeth Ekneligoda, the Lanka E-News journalist. Two special Police teams are said to be on the case. They have however, not come up with any information as to Ekneligoda’s whereabouts.

BE TRUE TO YOUR PROFESSION: FOWLER TELLS JOURNOS

Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy, Valerie Fowler, said that journalists today tend to self-censor their stories as opposed to reporting the truth, as a result of pressure exerted by external forces on the profession.
