Media ministry sends declaration letters

The Media Ministry has dispatched letters to newspaper organizations and its editors informing them of the decision to obtain details of the assets of journalists before the end of next month, Media Ministry Secretary, W. Ganegala told Daily Mirror online.

Sources from the Presidential Secretariat said the circular calling on all journalists to declare their assets by April 30 was a proposal by an alternative newspaper editor who is also a close friend of the President.

Young man beaten to death in Vavuniya ( for expressing political opinions)

Persons connected to Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) assaulted Thangarasa Krishnagoapal Saturday night at a liquor bar in Vavuniyaa who died of excessive bleeding Sunday due to injuries in Vavuniyaa government hospital where he was admitted by persons who were at the liquor shop at the time of the incident, sources in Vavuniyaa said.

SC grants journalist leave to proceed

The Supreme Court last Friday (25) granted leave to proceed with the rights violation petition filed by free lance journalist Ruwan Weerakoon (44) challenging his arrest and detention purportedly on the allegation of facilitating conversations between Gen. (Rtd) Sarath Fonseka and former UNPers Johnston Fernando as well as Lakshman Seneviratne.
